Concrete Proportion Material

Concrete is typically made by mixing cement, sand (fine aggregates), and gravel or crushed stone (coarse aggregates) in specific proportions. The most common concrete mix ratio is 1:2:3, meaning:

  • 1 part cement
  • 2 parts sand
  • 3 parts gravel or crushed stone

However, depending on the type of concrete you need, these proportions can change. Here's a general guide for different types of concrete mixes:

1. Standard Concrete Mix (1:2:3)

  • Cement: 1 part
  • Sand: 2 parts
  • Gravel: 3 parts
  • Water: Usually about half the weight of cement (but depends on the specific project needs).

2. High-strength Concrete (1:1.5:3)

  • Cement: 1 part
  • Sand: 1.5 parts
  • Gravel: 3 parts
  • Water: Typically less to ensure a higher strength mix.

3. Lightweight Concrete

  • Cement: 1 part
  • Sand: 2 parts
  • Lightweight aggregates (like expanded clay or shale): 4-5 parts
  • Water: Adjust to get the desired consistency.

4. Masonry Concrete (For Brickwork)

  • Cement: 1 part
  • Sand: 3 parts
  • Water: Minimal, just enough for the mix to be workable.

Water-to-Cement Ratio

  • Water-to-cement ratio is also very important to achieve the right workability and durability. A general guideline is that the water should be about 0.4 to 0.6 times the weight of the cement.
