The units of calcium and blood phosphorus are molar concentration (mol/L). The original units were mg/dl, while the unit of calcium-phosphorus product is mg/dl. Normally, the product of the two ([Ca] × [P]) is 30-40 mg/dl. If >40, calcium and phosphorus are deposited in bone tissue in the form of bone salts; if less than 35, bone calcification is impaired, and even bone salts dissolve.
